Join Kortney, who lives with multiple food allergies, asthma and eczema, and Dr. Payel Gupta, a triple board-certified doctor who works in New York City, as they discuss allergies, asthma and immunology in an uncomplicated way. Dr Gupta wants to make sure you are getting accurate information about these conditions, so that Dr Google isn’t your only resource. And Kortney wants make sure Dr Gupta doesn’t get lost in medical jargon and approaches the topics from a patient perspective.

This podcast is for the anyone who has questions about allergies, asthma, eczema, and immunologic conditions. Whether you have been living with an allergic or immunologic condition, are newly diagnosed, a family member or a friend, Dr Gupta and Kortney want to help you navigate through the confusion that comes with this diagnosis.

Dr. Payel Gupta is triple board certified in Allergy & Immunology, Pediatrics and Internal Medicine.  She earned her medical degree from Michigan State University; and then pursued a residency in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. She then moved to New York City where she completed a fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center.


Dr. Gupta is a visiting professor at both SUNY Downstate Medical Center and Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York.  


She is a member of a number of professional organizations including the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the New York Allergy and Asthma Society. She is currently on the board of the New York Allergy and Asthma Society and serves as the treasurer/ secretary.


She is also involved with the American Lung Association to help improve education about lung health and serves as a volunteer National Spokesperson.


Dr. Gupta has a strong interest in global health and was on sabbatical from 2011 to 2013 where she volunteered her clinical skills in Liberia, Nepal and India. She has also volunteered in Haiti, Tanzania, Peru and Honduras.  

She also suffers from asthma, eczema and environmental allergies and knows what it’s like to be a patient!  She lives in Brooklyn, NY and has a practice on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with ENT and Allergy Associates.  Dr. Gupta loves to travel, dance and spend time with family and friends.

Kortney Kwong Hing has only known life with multiple food allergies, asthma and eczema. She has multiple food allergies including peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, soy, sunflower seeds, poppy seeds, lobster, peas, lupin and more. She also has OAS (oral allergy syndrome).

Kortney became involved in the allergy community when she started her blog Allergy Girl Eats in 2015. Kortney felt there weren’t enough adults talking about what it is like to live with multiple food allergies, anaphylaxis, asthma, and eczema. Kortney’s blog explores the ups, downs, and the situations that you may find yourself in when managing food allergies, from dining out to foodie adventures in Paris. She also provides allergy friendly recipes and general tips for managing allergies.


Kortney is also a co-founder of the travel-review website www.allergytravels.com & manages the Allergy Travels online community.


She wants to empower those with allergies, eczema, and asthma to live life to the fullest and not let their condition hold them back.

Kortney loves to travel, cook, eat, and play with her dog Belmont. She is from Toronto, and currently lives in Berlin Germany.

Meet The Team

Dr. Jessica Hui


Dr. Hui is board certified in Pediatrics & Internal Medicine. She is currently completing a fellowship in Allergy & Immunology at National Jewish Health in Denver, CO. Prior to this, she earned her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University and her medical degree from Rush Medical College. She completed her residency training in Chicago, IL, and stayed on for a Chief year before moving to Denver for her A&I fellowship. She is passionate about using social media to promote education and patient care. 

As someone who had childhood food allergies, she can empathize with many of you! In her spare time, she loves to play music, travel, and explore her new home state of Colorado. 


Emma Mizrahi-Powell


Emma is a junior at Columbia University studying Neuroscience & Behavior, Women’s and Gender Studies, and Pre-Medicine. She is passionate about promoting wellness and improving the lives of patients through creative methods such as social media and art. Emma currently works in a lab studying lymphatic vessel development. She is alsoon the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Global Health and serves as the Vice President of Columbia Medical Brigades.  Emma also loves to work with children and is a proud volunteer at Camp Kesem. 


When she’s not studying, Emma enjoys spending time with friends, dancing, hiking, and exploring New York City. 

Kathryn Hong


Kathryn is a senior at Baylor University, pursuing her undergraduate degree in Social Work.

Her roles as a resident advisor in the residence halls and student leader in the campus ministry, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, created opportunities to build connections with peers through cross-cultural engagement and mentorship.


She is actively engaged with the food justice conversation through advocacy, educational programming and research.


Other interests include drinking coffee, calligraphy, reading, camping/hiking with friends, and spending time with her family.

Dr. Ratika Gupta

Medical Consultant

Dr. Ratika Gupta is a board certified allergist/immunologist.


She completed her medical education at Thomas Jefferson University and then went on to do a fellowship in A&I at Winthrop University Hospital. 

She was hospitalist prior to becoming a specialist and finds that the extra experience has helped her become a better physician.


She enjoys seeing patients of all ages and has a special interest in immunodeficiency.


She finds her clinic work very gratifying and loves to be with her patients.


When outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her toddler, reading, playing tennis, and going to coffee shops.
